A Trip to Nepal

RU trip to Nepal

Richard Upshall, Executive Chairman of RU : Listening, spent the long week end of Diwali/Dihar and Islamic New Year travelling to Kathmandu in Nepal.

Asides from visiting the roof of the world, the main purpose was for Richard to visit and consider how best to help an Orphanage located about an hour or so outside of Kathmandu.

In a country where earnings can be less than USD 65 per month on average, homeless children are under extreme threat. The English College school of Dubai, teamed up with Mission Himalaya to establish the Eco Farm Home for Homeless Children located in Sankhu-Sharada just outside Panauti in Nepal. It homes 18 children between the age of 6 and 16 years, roughly half boys and half girls.

The running costs and ongoing maintenance costs are partially covered by other charities, with costs ever going up though more help is needed. The Eco Farm also needs to be plastered, painted and more finished off, especially with winter fast approaching. Richard spent the day at the Eco Farm and looked at ways help could be offered, and offered advice on what could be done and how. Hosted for lunch by the team of Mission Himalaya, headed up by Bibhu Thaker their CEO.

Richard also visited various other cultural and religious sites in the country as well as taking an early morning flight out to view the Himalayas up close and personal, including Mount Everest.
