So this week, I am holding the fort as the RU Listening clan head to sunnier climates in Dubai for some hard core training with the RU Active team.

Whilst I scoured the net for my choice for video of the week and sticking with the Urban Theme, I can to the conclusion that I would not be choosing a music video, but a movie trailer for a film about music. Not really what I was asked to do, but for me, there is no one who has offered more to the urban music world than Dr. Dre and no group have changed the landscape for the generations that followed more than the NWA.

Over the years, Dre has brought us his own Grammy and MTV winning albums including three times platinum The Chronic. He also successfully produced several of Eminem’s award winning albums as well reaching billionaire status with the sale of his Dre Beats headphones,

Eazy-E passed away in 1995, after complication from contracting AIDS. Shortly after his own record label, Ruthless Records released Gold Certified Album released Str8 off tha Streetz of Muthaphukkin Compton.

Ice Cube went on to a crazy successful acting career scooping awards for Three Kings, whilst also venturing into clothes, endorsing brands such as Coors Light, whilst staying strong to his music releasing solo albums spanning the last three decades.

MC Ren has not really kept himself in the public domain, however did release a new album in 2009, Renincarnated, and several small film roles.

DJ Yella continued a behind the scenes role in the music industry focusing mainly on producing until dropping out in 1996 after his solo album, One Mo Nigga ta Go, As of November 26, 2011, Yella has returned to the music industry and launched a new solo album, entitled West Coastin’, which was released in the summer of 2012.
